Dream Auction to celebrate 10th anniversary Nov. 26

The 10th annual Dream Auction will be held on Saturday, Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Executive Airport Plaza Hotel.

The even has raised more than $330,000 over the past decade.

And this year, the charity fundraiser has set the loftiest goal yet: $35,000 toward the goal of eliminating child poverty in Richmond.

"Many of us in Richmond have so much. We hope an even bigger crowd will come out this year to celebrate and support this special anniversary of giving in Richmond," said former event chair Sally Houston, winner of the 2011 Ethel Tibbits Woman of Distinction Pioneer Award.

Houston and her colleagues at Gilmore Park United Church, have worked toward the goal of helping hundreds of local people "loosen the strains of poverty and build new lives for their families."

The luncheon boasts both live and silent auctions, and the winner of the popular paper airplane contest received two free tickets to anywhere Air Canada flies in North America, including the Caribbean and Hawaii.

Beneficiaries of the fundraising include the Richmond Food Bank, St. Albans and Gilmore Park community meal programs, Richmond Board of Education's breakfast and lunch programs, CHIMO's services to alleviate poverty and Stir it Up community kitchen for at-risk youth.

To support the Dream Auction, tickets are $38 each or a table of 10 for $380.

Tickets are available by calling Rebeca Avendano at 604-279-7077 or Gilmore Park United Church at 604-277-5377.
