The research is in, and according to Touchstone Family Association, it’s conclusive: families that regularly eat together stay together and have fewer problems.

With this is mind, Touchstone presented its second annual Eating Together in support of the Front Porch Project Sunday at Thompson Community Centre. A packed house of nearly 200 people showed their support for the project, which aims to provide services for families when they need them.

“If you think you need help, or your family needs help, you can call Touchstone (604-279-5599),” says project manager Kelina Kwan. “At one time (we) can help about 15 families. Each family stays about three months until they reach an outcome.”

Any at one time, there are at least five familes on a waiting list, says Kwan.

“So with more funding we can have more counselling hours and help more famlies,” she says. “We need about $100,000 per year to run this full time, but any increment of funds will help.”

Upcoming Eating Together events include a family dinner at the Hamilton Community Centre (5140 Smith Dr.) this Thursday starting at 6 p.m. and a breakfast at Cambie Community Centre 9:30 a.m. Saturday. An Eating Together wrap-up dinner takes place at Steveston Community Centre Feb. 26 from  5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
