Race is on for artists in Steveston this weekend

The Steveston Gran Prix of Art returns this week for its second year.

Organized by the Phoenix Art Workshop, the event's goal is to promote local arts in a fun and interactive manner. It begins Saturday, Sept. 17, when artists from around B.C. participate in a day of painting in Steveston outside—en plein air.

Artists will gather at Gulf of Georgia Cannery at 10 a.m. They'll then be assigned a Steveston location and will have three hours to complete a work of art.

All pieces will then be displayed at Britannia Heritage Shipyard from 2 to 4 p.m. The exhibition will continue Sunday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The works will be adjudicated, and various prizes will be given out, including the grand prize and people's choice award.

Contact the Phoenix Art Workshop or visit grandprixofart.com for more information.
