Richmond native Scott Bellis is performing in a new satirical Christmas play this week at the Shadbolt Centre in Burnaby.

Written by Vancouver playwright Drew McCreadie, Hotel Bethlehem is a cheeky look at the holiday season. The play offers an absurd and comic retelling of the nativity story, in which Bellis plays one of the geriatric, philosophizing shepherds.

Bellis is a Matthew McNair grad whose career in theatre began in 1984 after he landed a job as a stage technician at Gateway Theatre. Today he is perhaps best known for his work with the Bard on the Beach festival.

Hotel Bethlehem begins tonight (Dec. 14) and runs to Dec. 18. Tickets at shadboltcentre.com or by calling 604-205-3000.
