UPDATE: Suspicious fire guts empty two-storey Alberta Road house
An older two-storey house at 9780 Alberta Rd. was gutted by fire Thursday night.
Fire crews were called to the scene around 9:30 p.m. and were greeted by flames shooting through the upper floors of the house. There were no injuries.
A group of passersby watched as fire crews rushed to the scene, and heard fireworks popping inside the house after the fire had already started.
City spokesperson Ted Townsend said investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze, but are treating it as suspicious at this point.
The neighbouring townhouse complex was evacuated during the fire, and residents were provided a B.C. Transit bus for shelter as firefighters tried to douse the fire.
