UPDATE: Missing man, 78, found safe and sound

A man who went missing following a Tuesday morning walk near South Arm was found Tuesday evening, safe and sound, in downtown Richmond.

Liyang Yang, who was last seen in the Saunders area of Richmond, near Ash Street and Saunders Road, was found early Tuesday evening, around 7 p.m., near No. 3 Road and Ackroyd.

"Richmond RCMP would like to thank everyone that assisted with the search, specifically Mr. Yang's family and Surrey Search and Rescue," Richmond RCMP Cpl. Sherrdean Turley said.

Yang was last seen on Tuesday, Feb. 7 around 9:30 a.m. when he went for his daily morning walk. Yang usually walks for about 10 minutes, but had not returned home when police were called.

Yang is not known to use public transportation and is believed to be experiencing early signs of dementia.

Yang only spoke Mandarin.
