New West officers nab wanted suspect
New Westminster police caught a wanted suspect in a speeding vehicle without a high-speed chase Monday afternoon.
NWPD say two officers had just finished up a traffic stop in the 400 block of Ninth Street when a BMW 328i came whipping south down Ninth. They officers tried to flag him over but the vehicle only slowed enough so it could go around them and then sped away. The officers hopped in their cars but as they did they noticed the vehicle make two quick right turns, the last one into a dead end parking lot in an apartment building on 10th.
Police said the vehicle's driver tried to flee on foot but the officers caught him and arrested him before finding out he was prohibited from driving as well as having several outstanding warrants against him.
According to NWPD, the vehicle was impounded and the driver, Donald Ryan Stalker, 26, of Richmond is facing several charges in connection with the incident and was held for court on the warrants which included three from West Vancouver for occupying a vehicle with a firearm, possessing a firearm and obstructing a police officer. Richmond RCMP also had two breach of probation warrants out against him.
