Pedestrian dies after struck crossing the street
A 59-year-old Richmond man died Wednesday night when he was struck by a vehicle near the 2800 block of No. 3 Road, just north of Bridgeport Road.
According to police, the man was not in a crosswalk as he crossed No. 3 Road, and was hit by a southbound vehicle around 6 p.m.
When Richmond Fire-Rescue and B.C. Ambulance Services arrived on scene, the man was lying on the roadway, suffering from serious injuries.
He was rushed to Vancouver General Hospital for surgery, but succumbed to his injuries.
Police are continuing their investigation, but believe the collision occurred at fairly low speed, and that neither drugs nor alcohol were factors.
Richmond RCMP Cpl. Sherrdean Turley said it's not know whether charges will be laid.
Richmond Mounties urged the public and drivers to be extra cautious as daylight diminishes, and rain becomes more commonplace.
