John Yap steps aside in ethnic vote scandal
Richmond-Steveston MLA John Yap is stepping aside as Minister of Advanced Education, Innovation, and Technology and as Minister Responsible for Multiculturalism, pending the outcome of a review of the Liberals' ethnic vote strategy controversy.
Yap became minister last September and resigned today, Premier Christy Clark announced.
Clark's Liberal Party has been embroiled in recent controversy after a leaked internal document revealed plans to use non-partisan government staff resources to improve the party's standing with ethnic communities. The 2012 draft strategy memo was written prior to Yap's stint as minister.
