UPDATE: Pick-up truck driver ticketed after crash propels car onto tunnel median
A Chevy Impala sedan—with a demonstration licence plate—found itself perched on the centre divider on the north side of the George Massey Tunnel during the Monday (Sept. 9) morning commute around 8:30 a.m.
The Chevy was rear-ended by this Toyota Tacoma pickup truck just before the Steveston Highway exit, causing frustration for commuters even though the counter-flow lane remained open. (THIS ARTICLE originally stated the Chevy struck the Toyota.)
According to the Deas Island Freeway Patrol, the driver of the pick-up truck (confirmed to be a Tacoma thanks to this photo supplied by John Stark) was issued a ticket for driving without due care and attention.
A friend of the driver of the Chevy Impala contacted The Richmond Review Thursday to correct the original information in this article.
He said the Chevy driver came to a virtual stop because of the congestion, and looked in his rear view mirror to see the Toyota's driver staring at his lap. He then told himself to brace for the impact, which threw the Chevy onto the concrete median.
