Some family pets died Monday afternoon during a blaze in a single family house at 16540 River Rd.

Following a 911 call around 12:30 p.m., Richmond Fire-Rescue rushed to the scene and saw fire and smoke coming from the eaves of the rancher.

Fire crews entered the house to look for occupants, but nobody was found inside.

The fire was controlled within a few minutes and extinguished shortly thereafter, according to Richmond Fire-Rescue.

But the damage was done, as the flames shot through the home's roof.

The cause of the fire isn't known, according to City of Richmond spokesperson Ted Townsend. But the investigation is ongoing, with police and Richmond Fire-Rescue still at the scene Tuesday afternoon.

Though no firefighters were injured, the firefighters did find some family pets perished in the fire.
