Mosaic tiled walls and wave-shaped flooring were enough to convince judges to make a Vancouver International Airport washroom one of five finalists in the Canada's Best Restroom contest.

Presented by Canadian corporate cleaning giant Cintas, the fifth annual awards selected the lavish lavatory found in C-Pier of YVR's domestic terminal as one of the country's best.

Other finalists were also announced July 30: a privy at Patria, a restaurant in Toronto, Ont.; a tribal decor water closet at the Calgary Zoo; a Planet Hollywood powder room in Niagara Falls, Ont.; and one stunning sandbox at Shaw Club Hotel and Spa in Niagara on the Lake, Ont.

Finalists were picked by a Cintas team of "survey editors" from a list of nominees.

Bathroom and biffy buffs can vote for their favourite at bestrestroom.com now through October.

Valleyview Shell Super Station in northern Alberta won last year's prize—$2,500 in Cintas services.
