Colbert lands on cover of Sports Illustrated
The Richmond Olympic Oval ombudsman has made the cover a prestigious American magazine.
Stephen Colbert, host of The Colbert Report, appears on the latest cover of Sports Illustrated wearing a U.S. Olympic speed skating suit. The report is part of the magazine's annual year in review of sports media.
Colbert drew the attention of City of Richmond officials after he pledged to support the U.S. speed skating team, and then promptly criticized Canada for not allowing the team practice time on the oval ice, calling Canadians "iceholes" and "syrup-suckers."
Richmond has since invited Colbert to the oval during the Games to ensure principles of fair play were followed, and the host announced on his show he's accepting the ombudsman role.
The story has been picked up by countless media outlets and has been extensively covered by bloggers, giving Richmond international exposure months before the 2010 Games begin.
