Clara Hughes named flag bearer for 2010 Games

Calling it the greatest honour of her athletic career, long track speedskater Clara Hughes was all smiles after she was announced as Canada's flag bearer for the 2010 Winter Olympic games.

In a special ceremony at Richmond City Hall Friday afternoon, Hughes walked down the stairs to a loud applause from dignitaries, politicians and media, and couldn't contain her enthusiasm, flashing her signature smile.

She'll be leading Team Canada and its 200-plus athletes when it enters B.C. Place during the opening ceremonies on Feb. 12.

Hughes is a five-time Olympian, having won medals at both the Summer and Winter games.

She won a bronze in the 2002 games in Salt Lake City, Utah, and then grabbed gold in the 5,000 metres, and silver in the team pursuit during the 2006 games in Turin. She also won two bronze medals in cycling at the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta.
