Dozens of Olympic torchbearers gathered in Steveston this afternoon for final instructions.

The Richmond leg of the torch run is expected to begin at 4:30 p.m. today (Tuesday) near the north end of the George Massey Tunnel.

They were expected to be shuttled to their starting locations around Richmond.

Seventy torchbearers will carry the flame on its 21-kilometre journey through Richmond. Each will carry the torch approximately 300 metres.

As of 4:45 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, residents had already lined the streets of the torch route.

"Moncton Street is looking like July 1 in the middle of the parade," said Janice Froese of the Steveston Community Centre.

The O Zone will host a torch relay celebration for the community tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. Rick Hansen will light the cauldron at approximately 8 p.m.

City spokesperson Cynthia Lockrey said a big lineup had already formed by 4:45 p.m. to get into the O Zone.
