Malcolm Brodie re-elected, McPhail and Au join council
Mayor Malcolm Brodie has been re-elected. Brodie, mayor since 2001, received 20,955 votes, while challenger Richard Lee got 9054.
All incumbent councillors were re-eleced, with Bill McNulty topping the polls. They will be joined by two current school trustees--Linda McPhail and Chak Au--on council. A third school trustee, Carol Day, was oh-so-close, finishing 302 votes back of Ken Johnston for the eighth and final council seat.
Cynthia Chen, a former councillor who knows all about being oh-so-close--she lost her seat on council by just 174 votes in 2008--was 943 votes away from a council seat this time.
Alexa Loo, the former Olympic snowboarder who ran for office for the first time, was 11th.
It was a big night for the Richmond First slate. All four council candidates--McNulty, McPhail, Derek Dang and Ken Johnston--were elected as were all four school trustees.
In school board, chair Donna Sargent was re-elected along with fellow Richmond First incumbents Grace Tsang and Debbie Tablotney. They are joined by Eric Yung, the president of the Richmond District Parents Association, who just missed out on a school board seat last time. Incumbent trustee Rod Belleza was re-elected and is joined by two of his Richmond Independent Team of Electors slatemates Kenny Chiu and Norm Goldstein. The political make-up of the board of education remains unchanged.
